Synopsis:
"A Path to Dignity: The Power of Human Rights Education" is a 28-minute-long documentary that demonstrates the impact of human rights education. Successful practices and projects in India, Australia, and Turkey illustrate the power of human rights education in transforming people’s lives and empowering individuals to make a difference in their communities. The film is a collaborative effort between Human Rights Education Associates, Soka Gakkai International, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. A key message is that one person can make a difference in solving problems in society. Human rights education can transform people's lives, guiding individuals on a path to dignity and empowering them to bring about positive change in their respective communities and societies. In this sense, human rights education plays a fundamental role in ensuring equality and equal opportunities, combating discrimination and preventing human rights violations. The film shows the significance of United Nations instruments and frameworks—such as the World Programme for Human Rights Education (2005-ongoing) and the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training—in advancing implementation of human rights education. The movie includes statements by the UN high commissioner for human rights, responsible for coordinating United Nations education and public information programs in the field of human rights, and the president of Costa Rica, a country which for the past 15 years has promoted human rights education on the United Nations agenda. The film is available in English and is subtitled in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.
