Synopsis:
"Covenant" (43 minutes) is a film that documents relations between farm animals and people. At its core is a poem narrating the fact and the way that these animals provide food for us. Three years in the making and filmed at farmsteads and agricultural fairs throughout the state of Ohio in the United States, "Covenant" quietly contrasts the daily rhythms of barnyard life with the deliberate pace of livestock competitions. In it, farmers reflect upon the nature and economy of keeping livestock, while they call our attention to the rewards, anxieties and challenges of the human/farm animal bond.
