Synopsis:
The documentary ‘Web of Life’ is about the importance of biodiversity. It portraits the dynamic environmental activist and scientist Vandana Shiva. She explains why biodiversity is the essence of our existence. “In the last decennial India faced a genocide", said Ms Shiva. A quarter million farmers committed suicide, because they are in debt. They bought genetically modified seeds from multinationals like Monsanto. Farmers are forced to grow plants from patented seeds. Each year farmers have to buy new seeds. Vandana Shiva says that this will lead to the downfall of humanity. That’s why she felt it was important to raise her voice and stop the importing of genetically modified seeds. She started her organization ‘Navdanya’ to promote local farming and to cultivate forgotten seeds. For over a decade Vandana Shiva is playing a major role in maintaining biodiversity in India. Navdanya is a global understanding that has become a source of inspiration for millions of people.
