Synopsis:
Glaciers, they say, are the repositories of freshwater for planet Earth. The Himalayas are also known as the third pole because of the 5000 glaciers that empty into its rivers. In this film, we trek up to the mouth of the Ganga, the Gangotri glacier, with a group of scientists to witness firsthand how the glacier is melting. The aim of the expedition is to separate the truth from the hype about climate change. Some of the main findings of the expedition are that the glacier is retreating fast, at a rate of 17-20 meters every year. With glacial melt, the life and livelihoods of over 500 million people across North India now hangs in balance. The documentary also looks at the impact of over 100 dams being built on the Himalayas on the fragile ecosystem here and asks - with the glacier melt, will there be enough water to charge the turbines of the dams? And what about the local people, could they already be feeling impact of climate change?
