Synopsis:
Chris Dyer is an artist. He lives to express and he expresses positivity. However, he was not always this way. Chris grew up in turbulent Peru and it proved to be a perfect environment to release his destructive tendencies and teenage angst. All the while, he expressed himself through art. He made drawings of his friends, comic books about their crazy adventures, paintings of his personal experiences, and decorated anything he could put an image on...including skateboards.
Chris has always been an avid skater. For him, skating is a meditation and he honors that experience by painting on used and broken skateboards. In doing so, he captures the energy of the rider and immortalizes the tree. After Chris graduated from high school, his parents sent him to Canada to live with his grandmother. It was quite a culture shock for Chris, but he eventually found friends and continued on his path of destruction. Chris was wild, always full of energy. Though he was a rebel, he also did very well in school. He continued to make art throughout his college years. On top of all the art he was doing, he also made videos about his friends and their adventures. Chris never stopped creating.
During his college years, Chris went off to work as a treeplanter during the summer months. It was a life-changing experience. Finally, he came to know nature. They connected. He changed his point of view and began on his positive path. After his tree-planting days he set off to travel and see the world; he learned much along the way. These periods in his life greatly influenced his art. His paintings are filled with images of nature, other cultures and all of his eye-opening experiences. Chris doesn't just wear his heart on his sleeve, he paints it on his canvas.
However, Chris is not perfect and does not claim to be. He is successful in his art, but still struggles to make a living as an artist. He does many different things to spread his message, and he is always genuine in doing so. He simply wants his positive creations to reach other people.
The film takes the audience on a journey through Chris's life, from the evolution of his destructive side to positivity, and the evolution of his art along the way. Several renowned artists like Alex Grey and Roman Villagrana appear in the film, as do several professional skateboarders like Bob Burnquist and Karl Watson. The soundtrack is filled with international flare with contributions from award-winning groups like Midnite and Wassabi Collective. The film is sure to entertain as well as touch the heart.
