Synopsis:
The documentary filmmakers reveal the complicated modern history of Estonia, a country with a large Russian minority. They do so on a stage measuring several square kilometers in size, an area of allotment gardens near the international airport, whose ownerships are unclear. The aging gardeners are like squatters in the house of history. Beneath their feet is soil that is not theirs; over their heads planes are flying to countries they cannot visit; on all sides they are surrounded by a nation that does not want them on their land.
