Synopsis:
The film follows a year in the life of Huda Abu Abied, a 19-year-old Bedouin girl from the Negev desert in Israel. As a young independent woman, she refuses to adapt to the traditional patriarchal society back in her village. As a very concerned and politically-aware individual, she feels compelled to fight for equal rights for her fellow Bedouins in light of their alienation and bitterness towards the Jewish state.
The visible and invisible heroes in the film use devious means (or, in Huda’s words, “winding roadsâ€) to accomplish their objectives: Huda wishes to realize her aspiration as self-determining woman in spite of the limitations of her society, the Bedouin man who’s forced to build an illegal house for his family, and the Israeli establishment, which is supposed to take care of all its citizens, but operates with contradictions and conflicting interests.
