Synopsis:
Iraq, February 1988. Saddam Hussein’s regime justifies the looting and the systematic extermination of the Kurdish people as a Holy war against the infidels. From this date onwards, forced deportations, random executions and communal graves become the official operating procedure of Operation ‘Anfal’, which in the Koran signifies ‘booty’, ‘prey of war’. Through words and images, interviews and witness accounts, the documentary looks back at the darkest years of the political life of Kurdish Iraq, and aims to bear witness to one of the most recent and lesser-known genocides of the 20th century.
