Women and the Egyptian revolution| 32mins
Director: An Van Raemdonck | Producer: An Van Raemdonck
Focus Years: 2011 | Country: Belgium
Synopsis:
As a Belgian feminist starting research on Egypt, I had certain questions on what the revolution meant for women and how activists wanted to advance women's rights in this new context.
I chose to talk with these women in particular because they are all engaged within women's rights movements and organisations, some as heads of established organisations, others as younger activists within new groups.
This video by no means wants to offer any representation of Egyptian women's thoughts and experiences. Rather, by focusing on women's rights activism, I want to discuss the particular situation of women's rights during the revolutionary process and in the specific context of political transition.
My questions were focused on 5 topics and the film is made up likewise, with 5 chapters:
#1 Women's role during the 18 days of revolution
#2 The Mubaraks' legacy
#3 Women's rights, a Western agenda ?
#4 March 8th, International Women's Day
#5 Organising women today
