Synopsis:
“Nuklir Jawa” depicts the debate and controversy surrounding Indonesia’s desire to build nuclear power plants in Central Java. As the Indonesian government feels determined to go nuclear, an anti-nuclear movement has concomitantly emerged to oppose the government decision. Situated at the contestation between pro-nuclear technocrats and the anti-nuclear alliance in Indonesia, this documentary illustrates the public discourse of high-risk technology in an emerging democracy. Showing how different social groups have different perceptions of nuclear risk, this documentary deepens our understanding on the relationship between technology and society in the Southeast Asian context.
