Synopsis:
The river Oued El Kebir has its source in the Atlas Mountains, 1,525 meters above sea level, and drains 60 km near Algiers into the Mediterranean Sea. On his journey along this river, the director meets diverse people and communities. Thought-provoking snapshots depicting the histories of places and their inhabitants create a polyphonic picture of modern Algeria. In the conflict between man and nature, Zahzah establishes the link between the global and the local, the universal in the small things. “Don’t show that” calls a man on a bicycle to the filmmaker: “The French will say: ‘Look what happened to Algeria!’ But we’re doing so much better now. “
