Synopsis:
An eerie silence hangs over the forests of Guam. Of the twelve native species of bird which once populated the forests of the southernmost Mariana Island, only three remain. The culprit is the Brown Tree Snake. This snake was inadvertently transported onto the Pacific island fifty years ago by American troops. Although the Brown Tree Snake spread rapidly and unhindered over the entire island and American military personnel had become aware of its presence by the mid-fifties, the real extent of the problem was only recognised forty years later. By then it was too late to prevent an ecological disaster. Today Guam is the island with the highest density of snakes in the world.
