Burmese Timber Trail| 7mins

Subject Tags: asia, environment, myanmar, politics, resources
Quality Tags: Optimistic, Slow, Activating, Harmonizing
Synopsis:
Burma’s timber and wood products are under economic sanctions from both the United States and the European Union. This has not stopped the illegal trade in timber from Burma, through third countries such as China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand who re-export both timber and wood products bearing their country of origin. This is a major loophole that exists in current sanctions. This film is an introduction to the work of the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) on the illegal timber trade from Burma, through transit countries, that feeds the timber industry’s desperate need for raw materials and helps sustain one of the world’s most brutal regimes.
