Down the Mighty River: Episode 2 - The Great Divide | 22mins
Director: Ernest Webb & Lisa Roth | Producer: Christina Fon & Linda Ludwick
Focus Years: 2010 | Country: Canada
Synopsis:
"Down the Mighty River" is a six-part documentary series about the Rupert River on the last summer before it is diverted for a hydro-electric project. Cree native Ernest Webb takes us on a final journey down the river, exploring the impact of this mega-project on the people and environment of the north. In Episode 2 - "The Great Divide": The money generated from hydroelectric development in James Bay is saving the Cree and tearing them apart at the same time. Are river diversions a necessary evil for the Cree? Is development the key to survival, or have they sold their souls for cold hard cash? It’s a question of "damned if you do, damned if you don’t". One thing is clear: dams divide more than just water.
