Synopsis:
I am very interested in stories, particularly those that are real and told by real people. I spent my childhood in a small town near Mumbai, on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. This town was very famous in olden times, as people from Mumbai used to make fun of these local people - but now everyone envies these natives. What changed the perception of the city-dwellers about the place and its natives has always been a question for me until I listened to the life stories of the natives personally. It addresses a very sensitive topic on the changing social fabrics of Alibag, a place of socio-historical importance in Maharashtra. The film focuses on the current issues of commercialization of Alibag, a small town near Mumbai. Through this film I have tried to create awareness about the cultural and environmental aspects of the place that are being overlooked for tourism prospects. I have tried to tell stories of Alibag by voicing the views of people who belong to this place, and to sensitize the audience towards the local culture of Alibag. This film is a journey of the once infamous expression “Alibag se aya hain kya?” (Are you from Alibag or what?) - to now a favorite holiday destination and the expression “wow, you are from Alibag!” The change is inevitable for any place but will this fame of Alibag help in the betterment of its future?
