Deserts on the Move - Europe| 50mins

Synopsis:
The situation in Europe is dramatic. More and more areas are becoming deserts. Especially in Spain, a rapid destruction is in progress. The reason is money: Spain earns a lot with vegetable growing and tourism. These industries consume extremely large amounts of water. But water is rare - it is pumped from the heart of the country to the coast. Two-thirds of Spain is on track for a heavy irreparable desertification process. A counterpoint is Iceland, an island with a lot of water. In Iceland we find the greatest deserts in Europe! It sounds like an antithesis, but it isn’t! The Vikings once deforested the land and brought sheep to Iceland. This was the beginning of extreme erosion and the loss of meters of fertile soil. Over 100 years ago began the battle against the desertification. The success is visible. But the struggle is still not won! The film shows with impressive images the consequences of human actions on the long term.
