Synopsis:
"The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terror" is a 93-minute, feature-length documentary shot in 2003/4 and released in 2004. It is narrated by Edward Asner. After assessing today's dwindling oil reserves and skyrocketing consumption (based on 2002 OECD energy resource statistics), "The Oil Factor" questions the motives for the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. While the international security situation is deteriorating after ten years of the so-called U.S. "war on terror," oil is presented as a major factor in the U.S. decision to deploy massive numbers of troops in the Middle East and Central Asia, where oil and natural gas are plentiful. The documentary features original footage shot in Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan as well as exclusive interviews with Noam Chomsky, Zbigniew Brzezinski, the Pentagon's Lt. Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski, "Taliban" author Ahmed Rashid and many other personalities.
