Synopsis:
Pottan theyyam is ritual Dalit art performed in the northern part of Kerala. Pottan theyyam has evolved in its form and relationship to Dalit environmental life, culture, food, reactions, society, etc., but in history, the myth regarding Pottan theyyam has been hijacked by the elite Hindu Brahmanic society and presented as a part of the story of Shankaracharya, the advaita philosopher. This documentary attempts to reread the Brahmanical ideologies in the myth regarding Pottan theyyam. This is an inquiry into how Brahmanic politics hijacked the Dalit political environmental and social identities in Pottan theyyam and placed them in Hindu Savarnaism. The documentary is shot by the side of a river in Peringeel, the director's own village, and discusses the politics of the Dalit environmental life with its river, fishing life, meat food, sun rays, flood etc.
