Synopsis:
"Shanghai Gloaming" follows art photographer Greg Girard as he documents the disappearance of Shanghai's lane neighborhoods. These historic lanes, built between 1880 and 1930, are being torn down at an incredible rate as the city races to modernize. Girard's work takes us into these forgotten corners of the city and into the lives of the people who live there. Though overcrowded and many in disrepair, for a majority of people life in these lane houses forms the essence of what it is to be Shanghainese. Girard uncovers a way of life that, along with these neighborhoods, is disappearing in the course of Shanghai's rapid urbanization.
