Synopsis:
The 52-minute documentary ‘Run On – Desert Madness' reveals the adventure of Austrian extreme runner Christian Schiester as he runs through some of the most inhospitable, far-flung and beautiful regions of the world.
Equipped with nothing more than some water, his training and a completely focused attitude, this exceptional athlete attempts to run through four deserts on four continents, covering a distance of 250 kilometers in each: the Atacama Desert, the Gobi, the Sahara and the Australian Outback.
1,000 kilometers. Step by step.
Christian is driven by his search for the ultimate route, but what is it that compels this extreme athlete to forget the world around him and make this journey that will change his life forever?
This is more than just a portrait of the athlete Christian Schiester on his tour through the world’s largest deserts. It also tells the story of Christian's past, when at the age of 20 years, he was smoking 40 cigarettes and day and weighed 100 kilograms. With a large amount of courage and determination he turned his life around, succeeding in balancing body and mind while realizing incredible athletic achievements.
Complimented by a narration that describes, in detail, the shear extremity and implications that this physical and mental undertaking brings whilst exploring the unique cultural diversity and natural beauty along the way.
