Focus Years: 2010 | Country: Sri Lanka
Synopsis:
Poet and teacher, Somasundramoillai Pathmanathan, remembers the days when the baker in Jaffna was Sinhalese and the tailor was Muslim, and reflects on the changes faced by the people of Jaffna over the decades of war.
This portrait is part of the 'I Am' series, a multimedia project looking at identity through the lives of Sri Lankan elders. The project is trying to engage people with oral history and, through the wisdom of these wonderful elders, to challenge perceptions of identity and explore how this could help bring communities together.
