Director: Sohail Jafferi | Producer: Shabnam Jafri
Focus Years: 2008 | Country: India
Synopsis:
Tribals are an integral part of human race. Yet somehow, they always remain marginalised. Be it their rights, their surroundings or their culture, the modern world unabashedly treats them like an inferior race, meant for exploitation. I decided to explore their world through the eyes of my handicam. During a span of about five days on a bike, I tried to see the beauty of their world in the Madhya Pradesh state of India. I came across beautiful human beings, I marvelled in the majesty of nature. I was stunned by the history of tribal Gond kings, who ruled a vast area of Central India for over a century. I saluted an unlikely tribal hero in an unlikely location - 1200 feet deep in the earth ! But I was also pained to see that simple tribals of this awe-inspiring location are forced to migrate to city centers to do labour jobs twice every year, for survival. This film, simply an output of my handican and editing software, is dedicated to my friends - the graceful tribals of India.
