The Funeral| 3mins
Director: Andrea Iannetta | Producer: FTII
Focus Years: 2008 | Country: India
Synopsis:
A surreal funeral celebrated by people belonging to many different cultures and religions from around the world. Together, they honor the body of a common man who has died of a spiritual hunger. Among them is Gaurav, a young child, whose innocence allows him to see what the others cannot. In every society and culture the world over, when someone dies, people do not miss the opportunity to cover the dead person with kind words and honors (which in the movie is symbolized by the food). This behavior makes us feel good, but beneath it lies hypocrisy. In fact, once someone is dead, it is only too easy to honor him and we lose nothing in doing it… but are we always ready to do the same when the person is still alive?
