Synopsis: Andres cannot possibly afford the presents his daughter wants for Christmas. That makes him tell his daughter the truth about the tradition of the Tree Wise Men (the Spanish version of Santa Claus). This revelation launches them on a voyage of emotional discovery. Statement of Film-making Philosophy: I have chosen to make a children's film because kids are all too often ignored. The relationship between a father and daughter goes beyond dialogues, shots and looks. It's intangible. In "A Box of Buttons" there are many personal anecdotes from my own childhood, as well as stories from my family and those around me that I want to tell. I have tried to explore factors that affect children's lives such as the loss of innocence, the father-daughter relationship altered by the absence of a mother figure, how imagination helps children to overcome their deprivation, friendship and mutual support. However, my greatest challenge has undoubtedly been to capture both the tangible and intangible aspects of interpersonal relations: the subtle rites of passage of our lives.
