Amnon Ben Ze'ev

Thanks for visiting my site
Shalom,
I was born in 1930 in a small village, Gan Hayim, in what was then British ruled Palestine and later became Israel. I attended The Kadourie Agricultural Boarding School, also attended by former Prime-minister Izhak Rabin. Shortly before I turned eighteen, the 1948 war broke out. I joined the Palmach, the Jewish underground military force, and was a soldier in this formative war for almost a year. This was a major influence on my life, partially because I witnessed how people with a home and land were uprooted and lost it all at once.
A second major influence on my personality was my grandfather, who arrived in Palestine when I was five, coming as a religious Jew to a secular Zionist setting. He and my grandmother joined their daughter, my mother, and thus were saved, since they left Poland in time, before the Nazi invasion. My grandfather had an exceptional personality -- he was compassionate, serene, and took on responsibility for the poor and destitute.
For part of my professional career I was a journalist. As a journalist, I attended the Eichmann Trial in Jerusalem in 1961. I recently published in Hebrew a collection of my articles (including my reflections on the trial), alongside autobiographical stories and poems, called "Before Sunset."
When I retired, I joined a community filmmaking project, and was involved in the production of a few documentaries. Amongst them is a film titled: "Every boy is eighty", which follows the life trajectories of my three best friends-- comrades from the 1948 war.

Synopsis:
This film tells the story of an Israeli Jerusalemite family with four grown up daughters. Both parents were born in Palestine (Israel) and the family home was basically Zionist and secular. However, when three of the daughters reached their twenties, each in her own way became religious. In contrast, the fourth became active in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The director of this film is the father (alongside colleagues from the community television), who embarks on a quest to understand why have his daughters turned their back to their social environment and family norms, and why have they chosen their divergent paths.
