Synopsis:
The Spirit of Peace tells the story of Peace Pilgrim, a woman who, in 1953, at the age of 44, gave up all her worldly possessions, her former life and her former name to walk across the country to end the Korean War and spread a personal message of inner peace. She took a vow not to accept money and would only accept food or shelter if they were offered to her. She was not affiliated with any organization or religion. Her simple message was this: This is the way of peace: Overcome evil with good, falsehood with truth, and hatred with love. She believed that world peace would come when enough people had attained inner peace.
The Spirit of Peace contains interviews with those who knew Peace and were affected by her life and message. It was made in the same way that Peace Pilgrim herself walked, without asking for funds, accepting only what was freely offered. Upon its completion the film, like the book about Peace Pilgrim, was given away free of charge. Peace often said, "Truth is the pearl without price. One cannot obtain truth by buying it all you can do is to strive for spiritual truth and, when one is ready, it will be given freely. Nor should spiritual truth be sold, lest the seller be injured spiritually. You lose any spiritual contact the moment you commercialize it. Those who have the truth would not be packaging and selling it, so anyone who is selling it really does not possess it."
