All my life I am looking for the truth. As a son of Holocaust survivors I was busy finding out a way how to deal with this legacy. The truth is we can deal with it without holding on to the suffering and being a victim. My cousin Chaim shows in the film, that we can still choose love and even humor to deal with our fate and legacy. It is an inspiration how to deal with any fate, regardless of religion or nationality. To be a "Mensch" a human being no matter what you have to carry is a universal message that concerns all of us.

On the same time this film shows " The war is not over", it is still affecting the generation after. It shows long term effect and the responsibility everyone has by supporting war.

Elkan Spiller was born in 1963 in Cologne. As a child of Holocaust survivors, he was interested in Jewish history from an early age. He graduated in film and communication from the Berlin University of the Arts in 1992 with a thesis entitled “Antisemitism on German TV”. Since then, he has worked as a freelance journalist for German television.
He lived and worked in New York, Tel Aviv and the Bay Area around San Francisco for many years. He currently spends more time in Europe, especially in Cologne and Amsterdam, in order to finish a long documentary about his cousin Chaim.

I am currently working on the long version of this film. "L'Chaim!" The audiences worldwide convinced me to tell the story more in depth. They want to know who is Chaim and what happens to him after his mother's death. I followed Chaim with a camera the last years. In the meantime his mother died. For more you can see a trailer here:
