Synopsis:
Truly a man for all seasons. The story of an unsung hero and the city that inspired him, Benares, today’s Varanasi.
History has ignored this “English Leonardo,†a master of science, architecture, art and language. Maybe it is because his life was so short -only 40 years. He built bridges, illustrated the city of Benares and translated ancient languages.
This is also the story of the city on the Ganges that inspired him - the birthplace of religions and home of the ancient sages of Indian philosophy, hosting its own art, literature and hundreds of saints and poets.
A story of one man's genius. One man's passion. And the city that helped him come alive. A story of one man who did more to open up the history of India than any other individual has done.
