Synopsis:
"My Little Hand" is a documentary about a girl named Lisa Motuzas (22 years old), who was born with a deformed hand with no fingers (her "little hand"), and how painful it was to grow up being different. Lisa discusses how it felt when she was young, and shares some of the cruel names that she was often called and how that made her feel. She shares her appreciation for her strong family and friend support network and how they helped her. And through it all, her sense of humor helped her a lot. She shares some of her secrets in hiding her hand as well as some of the difficulty she has in her current lifestyle doing things that most people just don’t even think about. She also has some of those people closest to her help her tell her story from their perspective. Through this self-exploratory documentary, she comes to terms with being different and actually accepts herself the way she is. It is a heart-warming story that shows us all that it's OK to be different. This documentary was produced as part of a final program in Lisa's Broadcast Journalism program in 2005, but ended up being the best self-help process that she could do for herself. She won best documentary in her program that year. The film went on to win Best Student Film in the Alberta Film & Television Awards, and has been featured in the Calgary International Film Festival.
