Synopsis:
One bright day in the early 21st Century, in the historic heart of Berlin, Germany, 112 people from all walks of life and all round the world join together in a single circle. Seated around a giant round table, they have come to engage with 100 meaningful questions raised by the global public, to speak freely on behalf of themselves and others, to rediscover how much they don't know and how much they do.
Voicing the questions aloud are the moderators - Nigerian human rights advocate, Hafsat Abiola, and American actor, Willem Dafoe - who guide us through the astonishing multilogue. Divided into eight sections (covering economics, ethics, war, governance, ecology, culture, technology and perception), each chapter is powerfully established by a visceral introductory sequence of contemporary archival footage that situates each new set of questions in a global societal context. To every question, each participant has his own unique perspective to impart. Speaking in 18 different languages, directly into individual digital cameras, 112 human beings confront us face to face.
In Bebelplatz square - the very place where, seven decades before, the Nazis made a bonfire of books - a revolution in values is being called for. Amid this vivid celebration of cultural diversity and creative dialogue, we ourselves are empowered to re-recognize our own democratic responsibility to raise challenging questions and, together, to search for solutions. We are reminded of the questions that animate our hopes and fears and dreams.
The cinema is transformed into an auditorium of oral wisdom as we too take our seat at the Table.
