Greetings!
I embarked on the film "Stateless" because of my concern for refugees around the world.
In the case of the Rwandan refugees, some of which have been outside of their home country for 18 years, and the continued fleeing of these refugees, made me wonder if situation will ever be resolved. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been unclear as to the future of these threatened people, and every time they've tried to institute methods to send them back, the political and economic situation in Rwanda has stopped this action.
Though they can be a burden on some African host countries and the UNHCR, these people do not want to go home. Refugees in Europe have had security, knowing that EU countries recognize the problems of refugee return to a country where there are no democratic political freedoms or freedom of speech.
All of us who have the ability should protect refugees.
I hope this film sheds light not only on the policies of the Rwandan government, but also how unequal the treatment of Rwandan refugees has been through the years.
