Synopsis:
Bobby Vallabhchandra must protect his land and the rich diversity of wildlife that has made its home there from the increasing pressures of the modern world. While Bobby’s forebears had armies to protect their kingdom, he must defend his land almost single-handedly. We completed a five-week shoot with Bobby as he guided us through the hundreds of hectares of land that he is responsible for. This is a haven for a wide range of wildlife, including leopards, hyenas, porcupines, black bears, red face monkeys, langurs, peacocks, eagles, owls, cobras, and crocodiles. Bobby has built a small resort amongst the rocks on his land where other lovers of wildlife are invited to come and stay. But 10,000 acres is safeguarded to protect the wildlife from human interference and the ever-increasing threats to its existence. A growing tourist industry, in search of the thousands of ruins left from the Vijayanagara age threatens the ecological balance of the area. Quarrying and industrial agriculture are encroaching on the valley’s natural habitats and India’s population - and demand for resources - continues to grow rapidly. Thanks to Bobby’s efforts, the environment is thriving for the first time in many years. But how long will it last?
