Synopsis:
This is a story of a little brother and sister. When their parents came to know that they were going to have a girl child they had her aborted at the hospital. The fetus is then buried in the courtyard of their house. After some time, the soul of the girl starts visiting and wandering around her home. She is in deep sorrow and pain. In the meantime the family gets a male child. When the boy grows up he, by chance, touches the burial place of his sister. The soul feels that her brother recognizes and loves her. She comes to meet her brother. She tells him about her past and about the tyranny acted out against her by her parents. She wants to reunite with the family. Her brother prays in the Gurudwara to get his sister back. His sister's soul is freed from this world and birthed again in the same family as a girl. This time, the family realizes their mistake and happily accepts the girl child and celebrates her birth. This is a musical film. The story advances with a powerful song with pathetic wording: “Ma Rahem” (mother have mercy). The sister dialogues with her brother in a poetic way. One old saying about females, a few lines from Guru Granth Sahib (Holy book) against female feticide and one “Shabad” (hymen) boost the subject. The theme and contents are purely social and very much against female feticide. The script, dialogue, poem, music, and above all, fantastic acting done by two small artists prove to be great efforts made against female feticide, which impresses deeply the soul and heart of viewers. With the singing of “Ma Rahem” (mother have mercy) throughout the entire film, a deep spell of sympathy is cast and the theme that a mother can play a major role in curbing female feticide is highlighted. Besides directly blaming any characters of the story, the theme is impressed by showing the consequences of female feticide. The end of the film concludes firmly and perfectly that it is good that we do not indulge in such a sin and crime.
