On the night of February 12, 1998, the Indian military entered the home of 15-year old Sanamacha Yumlembam and abducted him in front of dozens of witnesses. Sanamacha has not been seen since, nor has his body been recovered. Manipur, in the highlands of northeastern India, is one of eight states inhabited by 40 million people of Tibeto-Burman origin. Since the 1950s, the region has produced several secessionist movements against the Indian government, and in response, India has militarized the region. "Sanamacha's Story" features witness testimony and documents the efforts of grassroots activists to bring the guilty to justice.
