Synopsis:
December 2009: The UN Climate Conference takes place in Copenhagen. While world leaders are trying to wriggle out of binding climate protection targets, activists around the world mobilize to push for a strong agreement.
During 16 months, Kim Nguyen cycles from Australia to Copenhagen. On his route through Asia and Europe, he encounters people already affected by climate change. With his video camera he records their messages and brings them with him to Copenhagen in order to hand them to the delegations.
Henrike Wegener and the Climate Pirates sail to Copenhagen on an old sailing boat. In Germany, they have been fighting against a coal power plant planned by the Danish company DONG, close to Greifswald. In Copenhagen, it slowly becomes clear that there will not be a fair and binding agreement. Civil society organizations and delegations from developing countries encounter exclusion from the negotiations. Protesters on the street are met with violence. Climate justice is denied. Henrike struggles with her deception and despair about this, while Kim recognizes and believes in the potential of a global climate movement.
"Move Copenhagen" is a journey across the frozen Baltic sea and the vast lands of Mongolia. The film portraits the values, fears and hopes that motivate Kim and Henrike and captures a very personal view to the failed COP15 negotiations.
