Director: Stephen Payne | Producer: Stephen Payne
Focus Years: 2015 | Country: Canada
Synopsis:
Troubled Waters tells the story of the Aboriginal Commercial Ice Fishers of Lake Manitoba. Every season the fishers brave harsh temperatures and conditions to continue the traditions of their ancestors.
Each season there are fewer fishers venturing out on the ice as many have found employment in better paying jobs. A changing ecosystem, low prices for their fish and a disappearing workforce threaten this once vital industry.
Take a trip out on the lake and into another world as we follow fishers working to put food on their own plate and provide whitefish for increasingly hungry world markets.
