The film begins in Havana, where we meet a group of 20-something guys and girls who are determined to surf the waves that surround the island. In some places, surfing is exceedingly rare, if not unprecedented. They sleep on rooftops and hit the water at dawn, keeping ahead of the authorities as they make their way around the Cuban shoreline. Their risk is real; their experience, exhilarating! To them, surfing is a taste of freedom they can’t experience otherwise.
