Synopsis:
This talk by Max Edkins of the University of Cape Town’s Energy Research Center serves as a guide to the changing landscape of energy supply in the world, and outlines a clear strategy to combat climate change and promote a renewable energy revolution. One of a series of lectures at UCT around the theme of “Changing Livesâ€, it explores our relationship to the environment and showcases sustainable energy solutions from around the world (e.g. concentrating solar power, photovoltaics and wind power). Max is passionate about climate change, renewable energy, technology transfer and environmental economics. He holds various degrees in these fields and is currently researching the large-scale rollout of concentrating solar thermal power generation in South Africa. He is also assessing South Africa’s renewable energy policy instruments, analyzing energy-economic-environment interactions and is contributing to the finance and technology transfer discussions for international climate negotiations.
