Water Routes in Amorgos| 21mins
Director: Efi Latsoudi | Producer: Efi Latsoudiapostolos Makaratzis
Focus Years: 2010 | Country: Greece
Synopsis:
Fresh water is decreasing. What’s more, we have forgotten the methods to conserve it. In just a few decades, the ease of access to water has led to over-consumption, leaving traditional ways of water management behind. On Amorgos Island, through the accounts of those who remember, we discover cisterns, wells, springs and fountains, all made with different techniques and materials but always with the same care. Besides these, we hear their stories, flowing like water, about the relation of their daily life to this valuable resource, as well as the ancient tradition of dowsers and water-divination. The occasion of this documentary was the restoration and enhancement works of the water monuments on Amorgos Island as coordinated by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment and the Cultural Heritage.
