"Buddhism isn't some fanatical religious trip. It is a philosophical way of living life. And also, to study Buddhism you don't need to believe in something extreme. Its a matter of investigating, examining and experimenting on yourself. It's not just belief. Without understanding, belief can be very dangerous. So what Lord Buddha emphasized was that understanding is the path to liberation, knowledge is the path to liberation." (Lama Thubten Yeshe). In 1975 Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche made the first of many trips to Europe. Their first stop was in London, where they taught a weekend seminar on Buddhist path to enlightenment. This included teachings on the nature of the mind, the perfect human rebirth, the nature of samsara, compassion and wisdom. This is historical footage and the Lamas' 1975 world tour really laid the foundation for the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), now the largest Tibetan Buddhist organization in the world.
