Summer holidays are near and primary school has ended for Hilal. As a young Muslim woman, she is required to wear the veil when she enters secondary school. Like girls her age, Hilal wants to look beautiful but she realizes that the veil might make her look unattractive to her Dutch friends. She is now torn between satisfying her obligation to her religion and doing what average teenage Dutch girls like her friends do. How will her friends and family react when she wears the veil? How will Hilal deal with her dilemma? What kind of support will she get from her friends?
