The Great Society : Director: Shivajee Ashim Das | Genre: Documentary | Produced In: 2007
Synopsis: When life gets too real, take a little time to dream - Lou Majaw Today, every human endeavor has a price tag. Rampant commercialization has propped up sounds most uninspiring. But somewhere in this avaricious world of Indian contemporary music, a few intrepid individuals from the north east of India continue to dedicate their lives to the creation of original sounds. Fighting all odds, and acutely aware that playing Western Music styles yields little financial reward in India, these individuals inspire a generation devoid of musical direction. The film, The Great Society, is an ode to the joys, sorrows, struggles, triumphs and failures of these incredible men of music who hold firm amid a cacophony of borrowed sounds, remixes and computer-generated sounds. The film is a tribute to a band whose music and songs emboldened generations - in and around the picturesque town of Shillong in Meghalaya - to live their dreams. True to the name of their band, these men created a society that will live long after they are gone.
