Longing for Peace: A Portrait of Don Tonino Bello : Director: Sergio Spina | Genre: Documentary | Produced In: 2009
Synopsis: Peace, charity and love for social justice: these are the values that accompanied the life and apostolate of don Tonino Bello, who was a Bishop in the Puglia region, Southern Italy. The portrait of a brave man who was always true to his convictions as a Christian, who dreamt of a church that didn’t represent power but was at the service of the meek. He dedicated all his life to the outcasts, the poor and the suffering; during the eighties and nineties he was in the front line against all wars, for worldwide peace without any “ifs” and “buts”. The only thing that could stop him was an unyielding cancer that caused his death on 20 April 1993. His death arrived just four months after the last courageous feat that he inspired: a peace mission to Sarajevo, in the former Yugoslavia that was devastated by war.
