Synopsis:
"If there's a quarter of million people marching in Edinburgh today, than there's no way they can ignore that." These were the words of a young man back in July 2005. He was determined to demonstrate to the G8 leaders the necessity for fair trade, debt cancellation and more and better aid for the poorest countries. Whatever happened to that campaign? "Whatever Happened to Make Poverty History" was an unprecedented coalition of 540 organizations that worked for months to develop it, only to be hijacked by the Live Aid concerts and celebrities at the last minute. Then the London 7/7 bombing occurred, and completed determent from the campaign demands. This film followed the people who marched in Edinburgh on 2 July 2005, through the reflective eyes of a Shakespearian character. It offers a reflection on global poverty, as five years have passed and some European countries have joined the ranks of the poorest countries. They are asking for international aid and are bail-out by financial institutions.
