Synopsis:
The Romeo Guzmán family is large. The grandparents never left San Bartolo La Barranca, their hometown. The sons and daughters began a new life on the other side, and the grandchildren were born in Houston, Texas. Aside from the sporadic visits to their grandparents, the children don’t know anything about living in San Bartolo. Doña Dolores, the grandmother, guides us through the world of emotions and memories that the immigration experience has left her and the whole family. She’s 68 years old, and she had nine children - six of whom went to the States as mojados. This documentary is an honest and deep testimony from those who have lived in the flesh of a situation that might seem distant: Mexican immigration to the United States, an issue that usually is studied from the political, economical or social point of view, leaving aside the fact that it affects individuals, like you or me, individuals who have fears, goals and deal with circumstances which sometimes we cannot even imagine. Tierra Ajena talks about that, a topic so overlooked and yet so present in the Mexican psyche.
