Synopsis:
"Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he can eat for the rest of his life.” Thioff used to be the most common fish in Senegal. Nowadays, it has all but disappeared. That’s a national tragedy, considering that it’s a basic commodity for the Senegalese people. What’s the principal cause of this fish’s disappearance? Over-fishing on a global scale. Off the African coast, you can see huge trawlers literally dredging the ocean’s depths. These trawlers originate mostly from the northern hemisphere: from Japan, the United States and, in particular, from Europe.... From a general viewpoint, the north is plundering the south. In Senegal, fishing is just one example of this, among many others. When you realise the consequences debt has on southern countries, that their populations are becoming poorer, that both business and trade are unfair, and that the whole ecosystem is under threat - you realise that some proverbs may be used to hide a hell-like reality.
