Carrie Grant

Filmmaker, Photographer, Producer
Carrie Grant is a professional photographer who lives on California’s North Coast. She has focused on landscape photography and protecting land through the camera lens. Carrie was a founder and served on the Board of Directors of the North Coast Regional Land Trust. Her successful community organizing, fundraising and volunteering helped lead to the permanent protection of more than 14,000 acres of land. Carrie’s commercial photography work has included projects for BBC and Discovery TV. She produced time-lapse photography for Discovery Education’s program “Science of Plants” - a 6-episode series designed to educate elementary school children about the importance of and our dependence upon plants.

Recently, Carrie has shifted her focus to not only protecting North Coast lands, but using photography and filmmaking to portray some of those who call this land home – in particular, the North Coast’s artist community. “One More Line” tells the story of artist Jack Mays as he documents the stories of one small American town, Ferndale, California in colored pencil panoramas.

In a small rural Californian town, Jack Mays sits in a white plastic chair on Main Street for fifteen years - seven days a week, twelve hours a day - drawing. Then he is given three months to live. He has never placed any value on his work and has always refused to show or sell it. What he does value is his community and his connection to it through his art. When it becomes clear that other cancer victims may survive with his help, he finds a purpose to his art that he could never have planned.
