Synopsis:
"The Forest Man of India", a short documentary and part of the series "Ideen.Transfair", tells the story of Jadav Payeng. At the age of 17, he started to grow trees on barren land. Many challenging years later, a jungle of 1200 hectares has grown out of this idea. This is a story of passion and perseverance and how an individual can change the course of nature. In the project "Ideen.Transfair", four young filmmakers from India, Kenya, Colombia and Togo present exemplary ideas in short films that they created together with weltwärts volunteers. Through the films, these ideas embark on a journey – in order to be seen and spread by as many viewers as possible. "Ideen.Transfair" is a film project implemented by Arbeitsstelle Weltbilder e.V. and WELTFILME.org and made possible through financial support from German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Director ANKUR DIDWANIA says about his film: "THE FOREST MAN OF INDIA is about one individual and how his story can be an inspiration for all, since the answers to today’s dilemmas lie in the efforts of every individual and how these efforts can culminate in change." Ankur Didwania worked on more than 80 documentaries for various non-profit organizations across India. For over five years he has been creating media and tools in the field of development communication. JULIA BALOGH, weltwärts volunteer, on the power of change and individual engagement: "Is an individual really able to make change? This film is for those who are in doubt. The story about the reforestation of an entire jungle by Jadav Payeng is proof that everybody has the ability to change something. This is the message I want to pass on."
