Synopsis:
Thailand's rapid economic growth has seen the gap between poor and rich widening. While the upper class Bangkokians are enjoying their luxury lifestyle, the people from the rural areas are desperate to make a living in the metropolitan areas of Bangkok.
"The Land of Smiles" documentary film takes a closer look at the problems in the Thai society and what is behind the recent political turmoil in Thailand. The aim of the film is not to judge anyone but furthermore to give a better understanding of how things are developing in "the land of smiles". How things such as corruption and the lack of education are overseen, and why the poor people are left without income. How harmonious and loving can Thai society be when it is torn apart by money and greed?
