Synopsis:
"The Sacred Bee" is a five-part documentary that gently unites the world’s major faiths through the paradigm of the bee. Combining science, art, and spirituality, this Canadian production tells the fascinating bee story. Part 1 of the film explains the importance of a sacred attitude, the importance of the bee to human survival, and the bee in the Judaic, Christian, and Buddhist traditions. Part 2 explores the bee in the Islamic, Hindu, and Initiatic or esoteric traditions where the hidden reason for longstanding association of the bee and speech, is explained (citing the importance of the modern spelling bee). Part 3 compares our democratic society with the society of the bees. Part 4 extols the health benefits of all the products of the hive such as honey, propolis, royal jelly, bee pollen, bee venom, and beeswax. Part 5 offers a short animation that outlines and explains the honeybee paradigm that gently unites the world’s major faiths. The film offers a unified conceptual framework to approaching the study of the major world religions through the symbolic model of the honeybee. The film features specially commissioned illustrations by Canadian award-winning artist Sviatoslava Kolesar.
